Ben Haselden is McKay’s Manager – Marine National, leading the company’s marine operations and supporting the continued growth of McKay’s marine capability both within New Zealand and internationally. With more than 15 years of international experience across New Zealand, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, Ben brings extensive expertise in marine electrical and electronics systems, with a particular focus on hybrid propulsion technologies and vessel electrification.
Since joining McKay in 2008, Ben has played a significant role in the development of the company’s marine division, progressing through technical and leadership positions into national management. His experience spans marine electronics, automation systems, electrical engineering, design, commissioning, and through-life support for complex marine projects across both commercial and defence sectors.
In his current role, Ben leads marine business development initiatives nationally while also supporting McKay’s growing presence in the United States marine market. He works closely with clients, partners, and industry stakeholders to identify opportunities and deliver innovative marine electrical and hybrid propulsion solutions that support the future of sustainable marine transport.
Ben has extensive expertise in electric propulsion systems, marine hybrid technologies, automation, design engineering, and project management. He oversees multidisciplinary teams responsible for delivering technically complex marine projects, ensuring strong coordination across procurement, engineering, installation, commissioning, and ongoing support services.
Known for his practical and collaborative leadership style, Ben combines strong technical knowledge with strategic thinking and commercial awareness. He is highly regarded for his ability to build strong client relationships, guide teams through complex projects, and support innovation across rapidly evolving marine technologies.
His work continues to strengthen McKay’s position within the marine sector, particularly in the advancement of hybrid and electric vessel technologies, while also supporting the company’s international growth and reputation within the global marine industry.
