McKay was engaged to deliver the electrical scope of works required to support the safe and efficient berthing of the Guardian Class vessels at wharves in Tuvalu and Samoa. The works formed part of essential infrastructure upgrades to ensure the wharves could meet the operational and electrical demands of the new patrol boats.
McKay’s scope included the installation of shore power outlets matched to vessel requirements, provision of shore power leads, upgrades to existing shore power infrastructure to support increased electrical load, and the installation of wharf lighting where required.
Given the condition of existing infrastructure at some sites, significant remedial works were undertaken to address non-compliant installations. McKay upgraded existing systems to meet AS/NZS standards, ensuring the safety of vessel crews, wharf users, and the public.
Despite identifying multiple site-specific issues, McKay successfully rectified all non-compliances and delivered a safe, fully compliant, and high-quality outcome, demonstrating its capability to deliver critical infrastructure projects in challenging international environments.
