New Zealand International Convention Centre

McKay delivered comprehensive electrical services for the New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), the country’s largest convention centre and a landmark development in the heart of Auckland. Spanning 1.53 hectares across four levels, the NZICC is designed to host large-scale international events and conferences, requiring a highly resilient and integrated electrical infrastructure.

Contracted by Fletcher Construction, McKay was responsible for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of the centre’s lighting, electrical, and control systems. The scope of work included the development of a robust power supply management system to monitor critical equipment and manage power distribution across the building’s extensive electrical networks.

McKay supplied and installed all cabling throughout the facility, including underground services, cable supports, and bus ducts, ensuring reliable connectivity across all floors. The team also designed, manufactured, and installed the main switchboard, along with distribution boards positioned throughout the centre to support its diverse operational requirements.

Lighting formed a key component of the project, with McKay installing architectural and functional lighting, emergency lighting, and lightning protection systems, all integrated into a central lighting control system. General and specialist power outlets were installed across the venue to support a wide range of event, hospitality, and operational uses.

To ensure continuity of operations, McKay also provided and installed backup generators and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. All electrical works were thoroughly tested and commissioned, delivering a safe, reliable, and future-ready electrical solution for one of New Zealand’s most significant commercial developments.
